Douglas writes to Newcastle to report the withdrawal of £431.5.0 from “Her Majesty's Paymaster General,” for Douglas's pay as Governor from July 1 to September 30, 1861.
The minutes ask that Douglas's correspondence be sent on to the Treasury.
The file includes a draft letter from Elliot to Hamilton, which forwards a copy of Douglas's despatch for information.

I have the honour to acquaint Your Grace that I have drawn on Her Majesty's Paymaster General for the sum of Four Hundred and Thirty One Pounds, Five Shillings (£431.5.0), being the amount of SalarydueManuscript image due to me as Governor, from the 1st of July to the 30th of September 1861, at the rate of £1800 per annum, Income Tax deducted; and I have to request Your Grace will be pleased to obtain the necessary authority from the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury for the Bill presented on this account to be paid when it becomes due.
