I have the honor to report for the information of the
Duke of Newcastle that the estimated cost of the several
articles required for
British Columbia—the requisition for
which was forwarded to this Office in your letter of the
7th
inst—is as follows, exclusive of freight and Insurance:

The
The time required to complete the orders will be about eight weeks.
With respect to the Coke, I have not been able to find
any Ship Owner willing to carry it as Ballast, as suggested
by
Captain Gosset. The rate of freight demanded is 50/-
per ton Measurement, which is equal to about £5 per ton weight.
It is presumed therefore that it is not the wish of the
Colonial Government that it should be sent out under these circumstances.

reference and I beg that you will have the goodness to return
it to this Office, if any of the Articles specified therein
are to be provided by the Agents General.

of the Coke, and ask the Treasury to pay the cost saying that the
Governor will be directed to repay the advance. I think the
Govr
ought to be instructed as in my Minute on 913.
