In transmitting the accompanying documents (which it is requested may be returned to this Department) respecting the conveyance by the Royal Mail Company from England to Colon in September 1858 of Extra Baggage belonging to Captains Parsons and Grant and their respective detachments of Royal Engineers; I request that I may be informed whether, in the event of the amount claimed by the PacketManuscript image Company on account of this Baggage being paid by the Admiralty, the sum will be credited to Naval Funds by your Department.

It does not appear why this demand was not made at an earlier dateā€”the Detachments went out in 1858. All the expenses attending the despatch of the Engineers from this Country were defrayed by the Treasury as an advance on account of the Colony, & I presume they will not object to repay the Admiralty the amount of the present claim. Refer to the Treasury before returning an answer to this enquiry?
