In reply to your letter of the 10th Inst. I am directed
by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint
you that Their Lordships agree with the view taken by the Duke of
Newcastle that the coin, to the value of £6900, which was sent
out to British Columbia in 1860 cannot be considered as a grant to
the Colony in addition to the sums voted by Parliament.
Instructions will be given forthe

of the Parliamentary Grant for the Colony as signified in the
Treasury letter of 25th October 1860.

My Lords request that the Governor may be reminded that the
amount available for Bills drawn by the order upon this Country
will be proportionably reduced—and that he may be instructed
on no account to cause the sums voted by Parliament for the service
