Since my return from Service in HM Ships Plumper and Hecate, employed in surveying the coasts of British Columbia and Vancouver Island, I have prepared for publication my journal kept during the four years I was there.
2. Having been employed, as your Grace has been informed by the official reports, on several exploring expeditions in the interior of both British Columbia & Vancouver Island, I am enabled to give my personal impressionofManuscript image of this country, which I trust will be found useful.
3. I have the honor to submit my request that your Grace will be pleased to direct that this book may be added to the library of the Colonial Office.
4. The title of the book will be "Four Years in British Columbia and Vancouver Island" by Commr Mayne RN published by John Turney Albemarle Street.

From what I have seen of Commander Mayne I am disposed to think he wd write a useful book. I do not know the price of it, but if not expensive a couple of copies of the work wd be serviceable in the Office.
