Sir,
In reply to your letter of the 7th Inst in which you request to be informed to whom the Sum of £500 appropriated by the Government of British Columbia towards the expense of the Survey of the Coast of the Colony, is to be paid, I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to request you will state to the Duke of Newcastle that the contribution in question should be paid into the hands of the Paymaster of the Ship on the station in which the Officer in charge of the Survey is borne; andmyManuscript image my Lords have instructed the Naval Commander in Chief to intimate to the Colonial Authorities the name of the Paymaster (and his ship) to whom the amount is to be paid. And My Lords request that they may be informed when the annual contributions are so paid.
