Sir,
The instructions which will be issued to you as Governor of British Columbia will contain the usual Clause prohibiting you from absenting yourself from the Colony without leave previously obtained from Her Majesty direct or through oneManuscript image of Her Principal Secretaries of State.
Since however you may find it convenient to be able to visit the neighbouring Colony of Vancouver Island as occasion may demand, I have the honor to convey to you Her Majesty's permission for doing so.
The duration of any one visit of this description is left to your discretion, but it will be necessary that your absence from your post without previous leave from home should not exceed four weeks in the year in all, and that each absence should be regularly reportedtoManuscript image to this office.
