I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 25 of the 30th of August, reporting the progress of the Expeditions for the discovery of the perpetrators of the Bute Inlet massacre.
I await your fuller Report on the subject, but in the meantime I have to expressManuscript image my great satisfaction that you have safely returned to the duties of your government, and that so much discipline and good order was maintained, and so little loss of life incurred.
I hope that in the result security will be reestablished and friendly relations with the Indians generally not disturbed.
