With reference to your letter of 2nd Instant enclosing an Ordinance that has been passed by the Governor and Council of British Columbia, No 24, entitled, "An Ordinance respecting the Salary of the Office of Governor" whereby the Salary of that Office is increased from £3000 to £4000 a year, I am commanded by theLordsManuscript image Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to request you to state to Mr Secretary Cardwell that although this Ordinance ought not to have been proposed to the Legislature without the previous sanction of the Secretary of State, yet, for the reasons stated in your Letter, Their Lordships will not withhold their sanction to its confirmation.
The Resolution and Newspaper Article enclosed in your letter are herewith returned.
