No. 44
20 July 1865
Sir,
William McColl, late Serjeant of the Royal Engineers, has represented to the Secretary of State for War that he has not received the grant of land which it was agreed should be given to those men belonging to the Detachment employed under Colonel Moody, who might take their discharge with a view to their settling in the Colony. I have therefore to request that you will cause enquiry to be made, andManuscript image report to me whether McColl's statement is accurate, and, if so, the grounds on which the grant has been withheld from him.
McCall is at present residing at Yale in British Columbia.
I have the honor to be
Sir,
Your most obedient
humble servant
Edward Cardwell
