Sir,
I have referred to the Law Officers of the Crown your despatch No. 9 of the 4th February respecting the limits of the Colony of British Columbia; and I have the honour to inform you that they are of opinion that all the Islands adjacent to the West Coast of North America South(i.e.Manuscript image (i.e. lying wholly South) of the 52nd degree of North Latitude still belong to Vancouver Island and not to British Columbia.
You are of course aware that the limits of the two Colonies are ascertained by a comparison of the following Imperial Acts. 12 and 13 Vict: Cap 48[?]4. - 21 and 22 Vict: Cap 99 [??]1 and 6, and 26 and 27 Vict: Cap 83. [?]3.
