I have received a copy of an Act passed during the last Session of Parliament entitled the British Columbia Act. I understand that this Act puts an end to the Free Port hitherto sustained in Victoria, Vancouver Island.
I have been for many yearsoneManuscript image one of the leading importers and exporters in Victoria and as it will be of great importance to the interest of myself, and other Merchants to know how long the Free Port is to be maintained I venture to request that your Lordship will be pleased to inform me when it is probable that this act will come into effect.
