I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to transmit herewith for the information of His Grace the Duke of Buckingham & Chandos an extract of a letter from Rear Adml The Honble G.F. Hastings dated 1 August No 100 reporting disturbances having arisen between rival claimants of mining property in the District of Cariboo on the Upper Fraser River.

Mr Seymour talked of an "insurrection" & did not mention Commr Porcher but I observe the Admirals letter is 1 day later than the Govrs despatch. Put by.

I cannot help inferring from this & the "Canada News" herewith, that Gov Seymour has made rather too much of this affair.
