I have had the honor to receive Your Grace's despatch No. 56 of
the
28th July, referring to a statement made by a
Mr
Lowenbergthat that he had been told that the Local Government would
continue to dispute his title to Lot Z in the town of
Victoria.
Mr Lowenberg states that his informant was no less an
authority than the Acting Colonial Secretary.
2. I enclose a report from
Mr Young on the subject
and would merely say that I had much rather take his word
than that of
Mr Lowenberg on any subject.
Omit in copying for Hudson's Bay Company.
3. This case is one of those
peculiar peculiar to
Vancouver Island which are
handed down from one Governor to Another for settlement.
However
Mr Lowenberg was informed on the
1st October that
the Colonial Government withdrew all claim to the Lot in
question. Nothing more can be done. I presume that he is now
satisfied.
