Sir
I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, to
transmit herewith, for the information of His Grace the Duke of
Buckingham and Chandos, a copy of a letter of the 30th
October No 194 from Rear Admiral The Honble G.F.
Hastings, reporting the steps he has taken in consequence of
Anticipated Fenian Attacks on Vancouver Island.

The telegram is not recorded in the Dept.
Gov. Seymour reported 1st Sept. that he arrived at New
Westminster on a visit—our latest dates from him are the 7
Septr.This This is the 1st I had heard of this attempt.
We heard from the FO Consul at N. York thro' the F.O. that one
of the intentions of the Fenians was to attack V.C.I. from Sn
Francisco, wh news was telegraphed to Gov. Seymour.

Rear Admiral Hastings to Secretary of the Admiralty, 30 October
1868, advising a proposed trip to Mexico and the Sandwich
Islands had been cancelled after receipt of a telegram advising
of an imminent Fenian attack upon the colony, with comments.
