Stocks to Under-Secretary of State
War Office
27th June 1868
Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 16th Inst and to acquaint you in reply for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies that Targets or Mantlets are not supplied by this Department to Volunteer Corps at Home or Abroad, but when applications are made, a specification for a Target &c is given to enable the Corps to obtain the proper Pattern from private sources.
Sir John Pakington has therefore directed that the enclosed drawings and specifications should be forwarded in order to comply as far as possible with His Grace's recommendation, and to enable the Volunteers of Vancouvers Island to obtain the Targets they require from the Trade.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant
M.E. Stocks
