Sir F. Rogers
Protection of Cattle & for prevention of Cattle Stealing.
This Ordinance is passed mainly to check the prevalence of
cattle stealing in
Vancouver Island, & it will be seen that
sections 7 & 10 are confined to that Island.
The
suspending clause has been inserted from a doubt being entertained
whether this kind of legislation, applicable to one part of a Colony
only would be approved by
Lord Granville.
I am disposed to think that the circumstances stated by the AG
justify this measure, though stringent & as to some
provisions applicable to
V. Island only. Sanction.
These Ordinances from
B.C. are carelessly printed.
Sect. V should end at the word Dollar—& the latter part should
form a separate section.
The second part of sect 7—"Brand to be registered" should be a
separate section.
