2. The Admiral called on me the day of his arrival, and on the
following day I returned his visit, accompanied by the Colonial
and Private Secretaries. On leaving the Ship I was saluted
with thirteen guns, which was returned by Her Majesty's Ship
"
Satellite."

3. I explained to
Admiral Cloue that I was unable to receive
him at Government House as I had placed the House at the
disposal of the late Governor's widow.
4. My relations with the Admiral have been most cordial and
friendly. I entertain him and his officers at my own private
residence this Evening.
5. The French Men-of-War remain here for another
week week and then
proceed to visit the
Sandwich Islands.
