I forward to Your Lordship at the request of
Mr Maunsell,
Private Secretary to the late
Mr Seymour, a letter addressed to
me by him praying for some permanent employment in the Civil
Service.
I have very little personal acquaintance with
Mr Maunsell; I
have no reason to doubt his fitness for employment; but I could
not recommend his appointment to any Office in this Colony,
where the Civil Establishment is already in some departments
more extensive than is required, and to reduce it is rendered
difficult by lack of opportunity to provide
otherwise otherwise for
present incumbents.
