Having laid before my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty your
letter of the
19th December, 1868, transmitting copy of a
despatch from the Governor of
British Columbia, with a
memorandum from the Acting Colonial Secretary suggesting that
cash might be obtained by the Naval Accountant at
Vancouvers
Island from the Colonial authorities at
British Columbia; I am
commanded by their Lordships to express their regret that they
are not able to comply with this suggestion, as by the present
arrangements not
only only is the Naval Service promptly supplied
with the amounts required, but there is an annual gain to this
Department by Exchange, which my Lords see no good reason for
sacrificing.
