Sargeaunt to Sandford (Assistant Under-Secretary)
Offices of the Crown Agents for the Colonies
Spring Gardens, London, S.W.
27 April 1869
Sir,
Previous to the receipt of your letter of the
16th instant
the Crown Agents had received from the Government of
British
Columbia a further remittance of £2000, and had discounted the
Bill at the Bank of England for the purpose of paying over to
Trust Fund account the amount due to Sinking Funds on the
15th
July and
1st October last, together £2125.
The Crown Agents adopted this course as there was about three
months before any further funds would be required for the
payment of interest; after paying over the above
amount amount there
will be a balance of about £600 to the credit of the local
Government in the books of this Office.
The next remittances the Crown Agents will reserve for the
payment of interest due in July next, in the manner proposed in
your letter of the 16th instant.
I take this opportunity of transmitting copy of a letter from
the Colonial Secretary of
British Columbia respecting a claim of
£979.7.8 against Her Majesty's Government for the conveyance of
Mails between that Colony and
San Francisco.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient Servant,
W.C. Sargeaunt
