Sir,
I am directed by the Earl of Clarendon to request that you will inform Earl Granville that a note has been received from the Chargé d'Affaires of the North German Confederation stating that Mr Mathew Trotter-Johnston has been appointed Consul for the Confederation at Victoria, British Columbia and requesting Her Majesty's Exequatur may be issued to that gentleman to enable him to act in the above capacity, and I am to request that you will move Lord Granville to inform Lord Clarendon if there is any objection to the Issue of such Exequatur to Mr Johnston, who is resident at Victoria.
