Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State to inform you, with reference to your Despatch No. 35 of 9 December, that the Queen's Exequatur, empowering Mr. M.T. Johnston to act as Consul for the United States in British Columbia, received Her Majesty's signature on the 25th Instant, and that the notification of Her Majesty's approval of the appointment of Mr. Johnston will appear in the Gazette of the 20th Instant.
