My Lord,
I have the honor to report that I have appointed provisionally and until Her Majesty's pleasure be known, Mr Henry Berkely Good to be Clerk to the Magistrate inVictoriaManuscript image Victoria in the room of Mr Theakstone resigned. I believe Mr Good to be well fitted for the Office.
2. The Salary attached to the appointment is Twelve hundred Dollars per annum, hitherto provided by annual Vote; and it is small as compared with the expense of living. The Office would offernoManuscript image no advantage to any qualified person transferred from another Colony or coming out from England.

Confirm this appt on the understanding that it is not to give Mr Good any claim to compensation for loss of Office in case the appt should be abolished on Union. This is not at all likely but it may be as well to guard agst the contingency.
