3 April 1851
Sir
I have received and laid before the Queen your two Despatches of the 18th November last requesting to be relieved in the Government of VanCouver's Island, and I am to inform you that Her Majesty has been pleased to accept your resignation of the Office of Governor of that Settlement.
I am unable to state whether the means at thedisposalManuscript image disposal of the Admiral Commanding in the Pacific will admit of his ordering you a passage to Panama, but I have communicated your wishes on the subject to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, and have requested their Lordships to make them known to the Admiral.
I am Sir
Your most obedient Servant
Grey
