Newcastle writes to Douglas to acknowledge the receipt of Douglas’s earlier despatch, which reported on the murder of Peter Brown and reprisals for the same. Newcastle closes with praise for Douglas and the “Naval Officers, and Seamen, and others engaged in the two expeditions against
the Native Tribes,” following Brown's murder.

Sir,
I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch of the 21st
of January last reporting the measures which you had taken for effecting
the surrender of the murderers of the late Peter Brown, andto
to acquaint
you that Her Majesty's Government regard the conduct of youself, the
Naval Officers, and Seamen, and others engaged in the two expeditions
against the Native Tribes, as highly creditable to all the parties
concerned, and deserving of their entire approbation.
