Smith writes a memo to Ball asking for the return of a tracing of the “Strait of Juan De Fuca.”
The minutes say to replace the tracing with the communication that brought it to the office.

Mr Smith presents his Compliments to Mr Ball, and agreeably to his request, begs to return the Tracing of the "Strait of Juan De Fuca" and adjoining Country, transmitted with his letter of the 22nd Ultimo to the chairman of the Hudson's Bay Company.
