I have the honor of acknowledging the receipt of your Despatch
N
o 3 of the
23rd of January last announcing the appointment by
the Queen of
Captain Hawkins as Chief Commissioner, with a party
of Officers under him to be employed in laying down the Boundary
under the Treaty of Washington between the British Possessions
and the United States and that those Officers were to proceed
to
to
Vancouver's Island, as soon as the necessary arrangements could
be made for their departure from England.
You also request me to afford them every facility in my power,
in the execution of the duties with which they are charged, and
I beg to assure you in reply that those instructions will meet
with my best attention.
