Douglas transmits to the CO copies of his correspondence with the House of Assembly from
June to August 1858
.
The minutes acknowledge receipt and send Lytton’s “regret at the painful disclosures as to the state of prisons in VanCouver’s Island" [sic].
Enclosed is correspondence between Douglas and the House of Assembly regarding the administration of Vancouver Island; and a draft reply from Lytton to Douglas acknowledging receipt and expressing his hope that amendments to the prison system
will be made.
