Sir
I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to state, for the information of Secretary Sir E. Sir Michael Seymour in May last was instructed to send HM Ships PyladesManuscript imagePylades and Amethyst to the Pacific Station as soon as their services in India and China might be no longer required, and the Rear Admiral has now been ordered to send the two Ships in the first instance to Vancouver Island.
I am, Sir,
Your most obedient humble
Servant
H.G. Romaine
Herman Merivale Esq.

Probably the Admy had some sufficient reason for keeping us in the dark; but it would have been very comforting if we had known before of these instructions to the Pylades & Amethyst.
