In compliance with your request, as conveyed to me in Mr Merivale's letter of the 4th September, on the subject of the compensation due to the Hudson's Bay Company for expenses incurred by them in connection with the colonization of Vancouver's Island, I have now the honour to transmit an amended account of the Sums claimed by the Company under that head, drawn up in Strict conformity with the principle laid down by the Earl of Carnarvon in his letter of the 28th of July last.

This is a great improvement on the original claim £46,000 instead of £225,000. I wd advise that it sd be referred without delay to the Em. Com. that we may have their opinion.
