I have duly received your Despatches Nos 42 and 55 of the 2d & 25h April upon the subject of the repayment of the advances made by me in the year 1856 to the Federal authorities inManuscript imagein Washington Territory to enable them to prosecute hostilities against the Indians.
2. With reference thereto I am glad to say that by the last mail, I received a letter from the Treasurer of the United States forwarding to me an order for the amount due.
3. I have to return you my warmest thanks for the kind interest you have manifested in this matterManuscript imagematter, and for the course of action you adopted, to which I believe I may mainly attribute the repayment of the money.
