Hawes forwards correspondence between Douglas and the War Office concerning expenses for buildings on Vancouver Island for the North American Boundary Surveying Expedition.
The minutes ask Douglas to supply the vouchers mentioned in Hawes despatch.
Included in this document is four letters of correspondence between Douglas and the War Office; a Statement of expenditure relative to Constance Cove House; "Account of Expenses incurred by the Hudson's Bay Company for the Military
Cantonments at Constance Cove, Vancouver Island," dated 30 August 1858.
I am directed by Secretary Major General Peel to forward to you
copies of a correspondence which has taken place between this
Department and Governor Douglas regarding an account and vouchers in
support of the expenditure incurred for the buildings erected at
Vancouver Island for the North American Boundary Surveying
Expedition.
I am to enclose copies of the only financial documents connected with
this expenditure which have been received, and to request that you
will move Secretary SirSir E.B. Lytton to request Governor Douglas to
forward at an Early date the necessary
vouchers in support of the several items which appear
in those documents.

Documents enclosed with the main document (not transcribed)
J.R. Godley, War Office, to Douglas, 2 July 1858, asking him to submit a detailed
account and the necessary vouchers following completion of the works
required by the boundary commission.
Douglas to Under-Secretary, War Office, 30 August 1858,
stating he had drawn a bill of exchange in favor of the
Hudson's Bay Company for the amount expended, and enclosing two
vouchers.
Hawes to Douglas, 28 October 1858, asking for "a formal account
in detail of the sum of £1222.18.8 supported by adequate and
necessary vouchers."
Douglas to Under-Secretary of State, War Office, 13 January
1859, stating that the vouchers for the expenditure "were duly
transmitted with my letter to you of the 30th August last," but
promising to submit in addition a copy of the carpenter's
specifications.
Statement of expenditure relative to Constance Cove House, dated
28 August 1858, signed by Alex Munro, Agent, Puget Sound
Agricultural Company.
