With reference to my letter of 
30th June last, and your reply of the
               
26th July stating that the 
Duke of Newcastle would, through the
               Governor of 
Vancouvers Island, give orders for the erection, by the
               Royal Engineers, of a Naval Powder Magazine, when furnished with the
               necessary details, provided the cost thereof were borne by the War
               Department.
               
               I am now directed by 
Mr Secretary Herbert to acquaint you, for the
               information of His Grace, that the Magazine will be required to 
be
be
               sufficiently capacious to hold 5188 barrels and 682 half cases and I
               am to request that instructions may be sent to the Governor to place
               a suitable Site at the disposal of the War Department.
               
               Colonel Moody will be instructed to communicate with the Governor
               upon the subject, and the Secretary of State proposes, if it meets
               with His Grace's concurrence, to direct the Inspector General of
               Fortifications to correspond direct with 
Colonel Moody in respect of
               the details of execution and payment.
