I have to acknowledge the receipt of your despatches Nos. 19 and 28 of the 6th June and 22nd July reporting the irregularities which had been discovered in the Custom House of Vancouvers Island and the dismissal of MrCharles A. Manuscript imageAnderson from the Office of Collector on the ground of carelessness and remissness in the management of his Department.
I have no alternative except to approve your decision in this matter, and the proceedings which are being taken against the person suspected of having embezzled the public money.
