With reference to Mr Hammond's Letter of the 21st ultimo, I am directed by Lord John Russell to transmit to you herewith, to be laid before His Grace The Duke of Newcastle, a Copy of an instruction which His Lordship has addressed to Her Majesty's Minister at Washington relative to the Island of San Juan and the possessoryManuscript imagepossessory rights of the Hudson's Bay Company in Oregon. I also inclose a Copy of a Despatch which has been received from Her Majesty's Minister in reply.
