Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 34 of the 7th of July last, reporting that disturbances had arisen amongst the Native Tribes of Vancouver Island.
The Secretary of State entertains no doubt of the propriety of disarming such aManuscript imagea dangerous race as the Hydah tribe, and directs me to express his hope that the measures you have set in operation with a view of preserving good order among the Indians generally may be successful.
