I am directed by the Lords of the Committee of Privy Council for
Trade to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the
23rd Ulto
transmitting, by the desire of the
Duke of Newcastle, for the
consideration of the Lords of this Committee, a copy of a Despatch
from the Governor of
Vancouver Island and of an Act passed by the
Legislature of that Colony, but reserved by the Governor for the
approval of Her Majesty's Government, entitled "the Victoria Harbour
Act 1860", and, in reply, I am to request that you will state to the
Duke of Newcastle that my Lords see no objection to the
fees fees which it
is contemplated to impose under this Act upon Vessels entering and
leaving the Port of
Victoria.
