Douglas writes to Newcastle to forward Reverend Evans's “Address” of condolence to the Queen, for the death of Prince Albert, on behalf of “the Wesleyan Methodist Missionaries in the Colonies.”
The minutes ask to acknowledge Douglas's despatch and to convey to Evans and the colonial missionaries the Queen's acknowledgement of “their Loyal and pious expressions of sympathy.”
The files includes three documents. The first two, one is a copy, are addresses of
sympathy to the Queen for the death of Prince Albert, signed by Evans on behalf of the "Ministers of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, in the Colonies of
Vancouver Island and British Columbia;" the third is a draft reply from Newcastle to Douglas, which acknowledges Douglas's despatch and Evans's enclosed "address of condolence."
