I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of Your Despatch No 87 of the 20th February last, acquainting me that the Secretary of State for War has, on Your Grace's recommendation,authorizedManuscript image authorized the issue of a supply of Rifles for the use of the Volunteers of Vancouver Island, of a description superior to the Brunswick Rifles recently sent out; and that 500 stand of Rifles pattern 53, with a proper supply of ammunition have accordingly been presented to the Colony.
2. I beg to assure Your Grace that your kind attention in thus providingforManuscript image for the wants of the Colony in this respect, is highly appreciated.
3. I will duly advise Your Grace so soon as the Arms may arrive.
