With reference to that portion of your Letter of the 8th Instant which relates to the conveyance of the Rifles which have recently been granted for the use of the Volunteers in Vancouver Island, I am directed to acquaint you, for the information of the Duke of Newcastle, that Sir George Lewis has ascertained from the Admiralty that no Ship of War is likely to leave England for that Station for several months, and application has therefore been made to the Transport office to provide conveyance for these Stores.
