My Lord Duke,
I have the honor to request that Your Grace will be pleased to
authorize the Crown Agents for the Colonies to procure and send out
to this Colony as soon as convenient, Six ruby glass shades for the
Fisgard Island Light House, of the dimensions and according to the
description herewithenclosed

2. This requisition is rendered necessary, as the Shades
applied for in my Despatch of the 1st August 1862, No 40, and sent
out per Steam Ship "Fusi Yama", are found to be useless, as will
appear from the accompanying letter from the Lightkeeper, being of
the wrong dimensions. I would mention, moreover, that Three of these
Shades were broken on the voyage, and not, so far as could be judged,
from any unusual violence. Iwould

I think it will be safer to send both despatches to the Board of
Trade, and request to be informed whether their Lordships think it
desirable that the Colonial Agents General should be authorized to
procure and send out these stores for the Lighthouses at Vancouver
Island
