I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch marked "Separate" of the 13th of May with its enclosures, reporting the massacre in British Columbia of a party of White men by the Chilcoaten Indians.
I have read with much concern the accounts ofthisManuscript image this lamentable event, and I beg to thank you for having communicated to me the tidings by the first opportunity.
