I have received from the Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company the
copy of an Information filed by the Attorney General of
Vancouver's
Island against the Company, praying that certain sales alleged by the
Company to have been made by them
prior prior to the Agreement with Her
Majesty's Government of
February 1862 may be set aside.
I shall be glad to receive an explanation from you on this subject.
You will of course understand that I should not wish any steps to
be taken without a clear conviction on your part that they are strictly
warranted in Law and in Justice, and unless you are clear on this point
you had better suspend proceedings
until until your answer to this
communication shall have been received and replied to by me.
