I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No.
86 of the
19th of October enclosing a copy of Resolutions passed by
the House of Assembly, and a copy of your reply relative to the
appointment of a Chief
Justice Justice.
As soon as an Act shall arrive securing permanently the payment
of the intended Salary of the Chief Justice, I shall lose no time in
selecting a Member of the English Bar, as described in the Resolution
of the Assembly to fill the Office.
I trust that it will not be long before you will find yourself
in a position to forward from the Legislature a proposal to grant a
Civil List in consideration of receiving
a a surrender of the Crown
Lands.
