This is the "job" on which the late Surveyor Genl Mr Pemberton was sent to England. The expenditure seems to have been sadly thrown away at present. Perhaps "Union" may extricate the Colony from this embarrassment by utilizing the work. We can only acknowledge receipt. Mr Seymour's attention will necessarily be directed to the subject.

Kennedy to Legislative Assembly, 17 May 1864, describing the
current state of the harbour improvements and advising that the vote
of the assembly was already overdrawn.
Kennedy to Legislative Assembly, 29 June 1865, reporting that
the equipment obtained by the colony to dredge the harbour had proved
unsuitable to the task, and recommending that the steam tug be sold.
Kennedy to Legislative Assembly, 23 July 1866, detailing the
financial liability incurred as a result of the harbour project, a
considerable sum being required to complete the work, and asking for
the opinion of the house on the subject.
Resolution of the Legislative Assembly, confirmed 3 August 1866,
declining to sell the steam tug and dredger as they may prove useful
at a future date.
