Sir,
In continuation of my Despatch No 52 dated 14th July 1866, I have the honor to transmit further reports of proceedings in the Legislative Assembly and comments thereon extracted from the local newspapers.
Remarks upon these proceedings you will I think agree with meareManuscript image are unnecessary, they themselves affording such a commentary upon the elective Assembly of this Island as can only be viewed with regret by those who like myself entertain strong opinions in favour of representative institutions.
I will only add in relation to these proceedings that I felt it my duty to abstain from any attempt either direct or indirect to influence the Assembly or any Member of it in reference thereto.
These Resolutions with my remarks thereon will be found inManuscript image 61/9583 my Despatch No 61 of this date.
