Hammond to Under-Secretary of State
Foreign Office
May 19 1866
Sir,
I am directed by the Earl of Clarendon to request that you will
move Mr Secretary Cardwell in compliance with the request of the
Wurtemburg Consul in London, to cause the signature of Mr
Pemberton, a Justice of the Peace of Vancouver's Island, annexed to
the inclosed document, to be duly legalized.
I am,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble Servant E. Hammond
Mr Blackwood
We must have here many letters while he was England. If some of
them can be shown me, I will consider whether I can certify the
signature without writing to the Colony.
