Robert Kearsley Dawson was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and joined
the Royal Engineers in 1818.1 He worked on surveys of Scotland and Ireland, superintended the preparation of the
plans of cities and boroughs at the time of the first Reform Bill, was attached to
the Tithe Commutation Commission and became an assistant commissioner, and finally
headed the survey department of the Commons Enclosure and Copyhold Commission.2 Dawson received a CB in February 1836.3 He died at Blackheath on 28 March 1861.4
