decaturDecatur, spelled decaturDecator in this despatch, was a sloop of war of the US Navy.1 It took part in the so-called Indian Wars in the Oregon Territory from 1855-1856.2 It was named after Commodore Stephen Decatur (1779-1820), a hero of the US Navy.3
